Houston Texans Release T.J. Yates

The Houston Texans have released quarterback T.J. Yates according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

This comes as a surprise with the recent activity the Texans have made in the recent days concerning the quarterback situation.

Yates looked solid throughout OTAs and was present on the first Mandatory Mini-Camp which started today. It has been confirmed through Yates' agent that the move to release him was made this afternoon following practice.

Yates was drafted out of North Carolina in the 5th round and appeared in 13 games (starting 5) where he completed 60.8% of his passes for 1,100 yards with 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Yates led the team to their first AFC Central Title in 2011 and the team's first playoff win against the Cincinnati Bengals.
