Louis Nix Has Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Rookie nose tackle Louis Nix gets his knee scoped to get him through the season.

Head Coach Bill O’Brien announced that rookie nose tackle Louis Nix underwent a procedure on his right knee before training camp opened. The procedure has caused Nix to miss all of the training camp practices to this point.

“As an organization we decided to do that surgery or arthroscopic surgery before training camp..”, O’Brien commented on Nix.

He continued,

“We felt like we wanted to make sure that we could have a healthy Louis Nix and not have to manage him throughout the season."

Nix practiced for a short time when OTAs arrived, but soon was not practicing for an undisclosed reason. He has not practiced at all during training camp and O’Brien finally addressed the situation with his rookie nose tackle.

At Notre Dame he missed three games of his redshirt junior season for the Irish to repair a torn meniscus. This caused his draft stock to fall some after the Texans drafted him in third round (83rd overall) when some teams had a late first or early second round grade on the nose tackle.

When Nix gets healthy and back on the field, he will join veterans Jerrell Powe and Ricardo Mathews as the teams’ nose tackles in camp.
