Texans Release Two Running Backs

The Houston Texans continue their roster movement and this time it is the running back depth chart.

According to multiple sources the Houston Texans have released running backs Dennis Johnson and veteran Andre Brown.

ESPN’s Tania Ganguli first reported about Johnson being released after he struggled some during his limited snaps during the preseason loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Johnson had a bad bust in pass protection late in the 4th quarter that resulted in a big sack on quarterback Tom Savage.

Johnson has appeared in 8 NFL games and had 49 rushes for 187 yards in 2013.

As for Brown (first reported by Pro Football Talk), he was released after he was unsure about his role within the team after getting no work in the team’s preseason opener.

Brown was signed as a free agent this past offseason to help be a complimentary back to Arian Foster, but that did not come to light as training camp progressed.

The Texans now have four running backs under contract in Arian Foster, Jonathan Grimes, Alfred Blue and Tim Cornett.
