The Houston Texans signed free agent cornerback Junior Mertile to help bolster a injury depleted position group during camp. With Johnathan Joseph and Elbert Mack out with injuries, the Texans needed to add depth for the upcoming game against the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason home opener.
Mertile was with the Texans during rookie-mini camp but was not offered a contract after the three day camp. He showed enough though in that stretch to be
brought back nearly two and half months later to join the Texans.
In his second season out of Florida International, Mertile (6-1, 197 lbs.) spent time with the New York Giants in 2013 during training camp and spent time
on the practice squad. He was released by the Giants on May 12th making him an unrestricted free agent.
