Grading The Houston Texans Draft

Analysis: The Texans wanted to improve its interior defensive line and the selection of Travis Johnson should fit the bill.

Houston Texans
1 (16) Travis Johnson; DT - Florida State
3 (73) Vernand Morency; RB - Oklahoma State
4 (114) Jerome Mathis; WR - Hampton
5 (151) Drew Hodgdon; C - Arizona State
6 (188) Ceandris Brown; S - Louisiana-Lafayette
7 (227) Kenneth Pettway; OLB - Grambling

Analysis: The Texans wanted to improve its interior defensive line and the selection of Travis Johnson should fit the bill. Very quick and physical, Johnson has then physical tools to play the defensive tackle/nose tackle spot, while having the athletic ability to line up at end. Houston's interior defense should improve with the acquisition of Johnson.

Selecting Morency could raise the red-flag in regards to the thoughts of the Texans state of the running back position. With Jonathan Wells and Tony Hollings backing up starting back Domanick Davis, the need for a back does not appear to be a necessity. A tireless rusher, Morency plays faster than his 40-time and has ability to be a factor in the receiving game out of the backfield.

Grade: C
