It is being reported by Adam Kaplan of Pro Football News
and Injury Report that Houston has acquired another offensive lineman through
free agency. David Loverne from the Detroit Lions has been signed by the Texans
to play the guard position.
Loverne has played with several teams over his seven year
NFL career, including for the New York Jets from 1999 – 2001, the Washington Redskins, the St. Louis Rams, and most recently the Detroit Lions.
During his first season with the Lions in 2004 Loverne
started 13 games. However, in 2005 he tore his bicep that gave him problems
throughout the season and he did not play.
Loverne joined the NFL with the New York Jets as the number
29 pick in the third round in the 1999 draft (90th overall).
Houston Trys Out 2 Offensive Linemen & 1 Wide Receiver
The Houston Texans are playing host to some potential new
members of the Texans offensive lineup. They include Jerome Pathon, WR from the
Washington Redskins, Mike Pearson, Tackle from the Jacksonville Jaguars, and
Tutan Reyes, a Guard from the Carolina Panthers.
Pathon has 9 years of NFL experience and tallied up 260
receptions for 3350 yards. Pearson tore his ACL two years ago and has only
played 8 games during the previous 2 seasons. During 2003 he was a starter for
the Jags OL. Reyes started all 16 regular season games for the Panthers last
season.
The Texans already have made several additions to their
depth and the Wide Reciever position, in light of the loss of two veteran Texan
Wide Recievers through free agency. The Texans have also made a couple of
signings to assist the suffering offensive line. Bringing on talent such as
Reyes could be another piece of the puzzle to keeping the Texan offense moving.
With Pearson’s injury history and lack of time on the field during the past two
years, it is unclear how well he could contribute to filling the immediate
problems the Texans are addressing on the offensive line.
