Texans quarterback David Carr gets benched as the Houston Texans rack up their 11th straight road loss and drop to the Tennessee Titans
22-28.
The biggest enemy of the Texans were themselves this
Sunday. Houston outplayed the Titans, but was unable to overcome the
inexcusable number of mistakes that were made by the team. Houston gave up 5
turnovers on the day, giving Tennessee 3 fumbles and 2 interceptions that
ultimately gave the Titans 14 points and the game.
The energy was expected to be high considering the history
between the current Houston football franchise and the former Houston Oilers,
but the Texans essentially doomed themselves to a loss with their performance in
Tennessee Sunday afternoon.
Texans backup QB Sage Rosenfels was brought into the game
early in the third quarter to replace Carr, who was pulled after fumbling the
ball twice and throwing an interception. Sage looked very good today,
commanding the field and throwing 18/25 for 185 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1
interception. Carr finished 15/21 with 113 yards.
Texans rookie RB Wali Lundy had a great game against
Tennessee, breaking the 100 yard mark for the first time in his career. Lundy
rushed 18 times for 116 yards and made 5 receptions for 33 yards.
The other rookies on the Texans roster faired pretty well
also. TE Owen Daniels led the team today with 9 receptions for 99 yards and 2
touchdowns. Daniels now has 5 touchdowns on the season. First round draft pick
DE Mario Williams had 4 tackles on the day, as well as dragging down Titans QB
Vince Young for the Texans only sack. Williams leads the Texans with 3.5 sacks
so far this year.
Houston’s dubbed “Hometown Hero” and former University of
Texas QB Vince Young threw 7/15 for 87 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 4
times for 44 yards and another touchdown.
The Texans beat the Titans in every way except the
scoreboard. Houston created 427 yards of net offense compared to Tennessee’s
197. Houston’s 279 yards passing dwarfed the Titan’s 89 yards passing. The
Texans racked up 26 first downs, which is more than 2.5 times more than the 10
first downs put up by the Titans. Interceptions, fumbles, and stupid penalties
were the demise of the Texans today.
Houston is now 2-5 after 8 weeks of play in the 2006
season, and shares a tie with Jacksonville for 3rd place in the AFC South. Next
week, the Texans will travel to New York to take on the Giants, and then to
Jacksonville to end a 3 week road trip. The next home game for the Texans will
be on November 11th when the Texans will face the Buffalo Bills.
