Texans Draft Summary - Day One

The Texans battle cry for the first day of the draft was clearly "defense!". Houston picked a player that many eyed for them in USC linebacker Brian Cushing with their 15th pick, and they coupled it by selecting one of the most interesting players in the draft in round two, Connor Barwin.

Brian Cushing will likely start at outside linebacker next to DeMeco Ryans, as Zac Diles and Xavier Adibi will compete for the starting job opposite the USC linebacker. Cushing has sideline to sideline playmaking ability, and simply does everything well.

Scout.com NFL Expert Tom Marino had Cushing ranked as the seventh-overall prospect in the draft.

We love the Texans second-round pick, as Connor Barwin is a jack of all trades. Barwin is an elite athlete who has a non-stop motor.

Scout.com NFL Expert Tom Marino rated Barwin as the 14th ranked player in this draft.

Overall, the Texans made two very solid picks who will likely pay immediate dividends to a defense that struggled to hold leads and get pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
