Jaguars 24, Chiefs 21
So the Jaguars give Maurice Jones-Drew
30+ touches and they win. At 4-4, does this mean the Jaguars are legit playoff contenders? No. The combined record of the four teams the Jaguars defeated is 9-24, and the combined record of the teams they've lost to is 18-14. All this proves is that the Jaguars are better than the league's downtrodden.
As for the Chiefs, what can you say? They can't run the ball and their defense is atrocious. At least Matt Cassel
looked like a quarterback against one of the worst passing defenses in football.
Colts 20, Texans 17
It wasn't Indianapolis's finest hour, but the Colts did exactly what they needed to do to win their 17th consecutive regular season game. Colts are getting great production from middle-round draft picks Jerraud Powers
and Austin Collie
Same story for Houston, so close yet so far away. What if Kris Brown's attempt at a game-tying field goal wasn't wide left? What if they would've recovered a Peyton Manning
fumble deep in Colts territory? What if Matt Schaub's pass would've fell harmlessly to the ground after he was hit instead of in Clint Session's hands? Doesn't it always seem to go this way when the Texans play the Colts?
Falcons 31, Redskins 17
is beginning to look like last year's Michael Turner as he had 166 yards and two touchdowns on just 18 carries. Can we take these guys seriously? The Falcons haven't yet defeated a team with a better than .500 record.
Lame duck head coach equates to lame effort by the 'Skins. If there was ever a team that is playing out the string it's this one.
Cardinals 41, Bears 21
again looked like future HOF QB Kurt Warner, but most quarterbacks do against the Bears. Larry Fitzgerald
is probably the best WR in the game. Even with just a 5-3 record, the Cards are locks to win the NFC Worst.
Chicago's defense is terrible and what happened to Matt Forte
? Too bad for all who drafted Forte in the first round of your fantasy drafts.
Bengals 17, Ravens 7
I think it's safe to say that the Bengals are for real. Great balance on offense and the defense is playing at an elite level. Bengals held Baltimore to just 215 yards of total offense.
Patriots 27, Dolphins 17
Brady to Moss is as good as it gets. Still, the Pats were just one for four in the red zone and that's what made this a closer game than it should've been.
Dolphins have no assemblance of a downfield passing attack. Ted Ginn
doesn't need the H1N1 shot because he can't even catch a cold.
Bucs 38, Packers 28
era has begun with a victory! Many have compared Freeman to JaMarcus Russell
, but he's off to a great start. Nice job by the Bucs defense getting pressure on Rodgers which led to turnovers.
Green Bay has the worst offensive line in the game. Rodgers has been sacked 37 times in just eight games. This will be a game that they'll regret losing when they miss the playoffs.
Seahawks 32, Lions 20
Seattle defense forces five interceptions and they avoid complete embarrassment at home against the Lions after falling behind 17-0.
Rookie quarterback equals rookie mistakes. Still, a moral victory for the Lions for keeping it competitive. Stafford to Pettigrew could turn into a nice combo.
Saints 30, Panthers 20
Saints are struggling to stop the run, and that could make for an abbreviated postseason run. Still, they have Drew Brees
and with him they can beat anyone, thus their 8-0 record.
Carolina is playing better each week, all they need to do is figure out how to get Steve Smith
Chargers 21, Giants 20
Is it possible that Norv Turner out-coached Tom Coughlin? Not really, but Norv's Chargers made big plays down the stretch and the Giants defense fell apart after 58 minutes of stellar play.
It was the right move by Coughlin to use clock and then kick the field goal. That said, sometimes making the right move still doesn't work out. Blackjack equivalent: Holding with 16 when the dealer has a six showing.
Titans 34, 49ers 27
is 2-0 as a starter, sort of. Everyone on the Titans is playing much better around him and Jeff Fisher
is putting Young into positions where he can succeed. It helps that Chris Johnson
threw three interceptions and perhaps the feel-good story is over. 49ers have dropped five straight and with Chicago and Green Bay up in the next two weeks, there may be no immediate end in sight.
Cowboys 20, Eagles 16
Perhaps Romo can win a big game in a tough environment? They still throw a little too much, but Roy Williams
should be happy for at least the next six days.
The Eagles have lost 12 consecutive games when trailing in the fourth quarter. Perhaps McNabb is an overrated quarterback and Andy Reid is an overrated coach?
