Round 1-Kareem Jackson/CB - After losing CB Dunta Robinson in free agency, the
Texans had to replace his starting role. Jackson, who was perhaps the most
versatile cornerback available for this year's draft, will come in and start
right away.
Round 2-Ben Tate/RB - Tate is the kind of back that fits Houston's one-cut,
downhill zone rushing attack well. He should get a legitimate shot to start as a
rookie.
Round 3-Earl Mitchell/DT - Houston needed to add at least one interior defensive
lineman in this draft. They were able to add a good one in Mitchell. Mitchell,
who started his collegiate career off as a tight end, has a ton of upside and
ability. He's the perfect developmental prospect for Houston's defensive scheme.
He could challenge for a starting job as early as year two.
Round 4-Darryl Sharpton/LB - The undersized defender will vie for a roster spot
as a backup at WLB or MLB.
Round 4-Garrett Graham/TE - This position wasn't one of great need, but two out
of their top-three tight ends are coming off of ACL surgery. The underrated pass
catcher could push for the No. 2 job at this position down the line.
Round 5-Sherrick McManis/CB - The technically sound defensive back will vie for
a roster spot in a dime role.
Round 6-Shelley Smith/G - Smith will challenge for a roster spot as a sixth
interior offensive lineman.
Round 6-Trindon Holliday/WR - The small, but speedy receiver will get a chance
to make the team as a special teams returner. Holliday's selection was
interesting since Jacoby Jones has been a solid returner in past seasons.
Round 7-Dorin Dickerson/WR - The collegiate tight end is being moved to wide
receiver. In time, Dickerson could handle the No. 4 receiver role for the team.
Post-Draft Needs
Free Safety - This position has been one of inconsistency for Houston over
several years. An upgrade here is still needed going forward.
