According to ESPN’s Tania Ganguli, Houston Texans defensive end and soon to be free agent defensive tackle Earl Mitchell will be headed to a new team in 2014. Mitchell was drafted by the Texans in 2010 in the 3rd round (81st overall) out of Arizona.
The Houston native and North Shore alum returned to his home city to appear in 63 game for the Texans in four seasons. He totaled 134 total tackles playing in two different defensive schemes while in Houston. He lined up as a three technique in the 4-3 defense and a nose tackle in the 3-4 defense under former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
His versatility of being a 300 lbs. defensive lineman that has the strength to hold up and run for his size has other teams across the NFL looking to add him to their roster.
The Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys have all shown interest in Mitchell.
