Clowney and Su’a-Filo Draft Picks

The Houston Texans are working to fill the holes on their current roster and it started with the selections of outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney and offensive guard/tackle Xavier Su’a-Filo.

The addition of the two rookies allow the Texans to address two other positions with linebacker Brooks Reed and offensive lineman David Quessenberry. With issues at right tackle and inside linebacker, the picks allow the Texans the flexibility to to fill those positions.

Four positions have been filled in two days of work for the Texans.

Potential Offensive Line
LT: Duane Brown
LG: Xavier Su’a-Filo
C: Chris Myers
RG: Brandon Brooks
RT: David Quessnberry/Derek Newton

Potential Linebackers
OLB: Jadeveon Clowney
OLB: Whitney Mercilus
ILB: Brian Cushing
ILB: Brooks Reed

General Manager Rick Smith talked about the potential of adding Clowney and what it will do to the linebackers,

“Well we’ve got some flexibility. We’ve talked often times about some of the flexibility with some of our players and I imagine that you’re referring to maybe Brooks Reed and where he fits. I talked last night about one of the calling cars for Romeo Crennel and his history as a coordinator has been creativity. So we will certainly leave that up to him. He’s a lot better at that than I am, so we’ll leave that up to him.”

To this point the Texans draft has been bigger than just the names they have brought in. They have thought outside the box to use players in-house at positions of need.

The new look Texans with the Bill O’Brien influence have started off well in the first two rounds of the draft.
